Exciting news for Disney Cruise Line fans! In the summer of 2024, Disney will begin welcoming guests to its brand-new private island destination.
Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point is located on the island of Eleuthera in The Bahamas. This one-of-a-kind island retreat has been created in collaboration with local artists and advisors and promises to be a unique celebration of Bahamian culture.
“At Disney Cruise Line, we have a deep appreciation for the Bahamian community. We are connected in many ways, including our shared values of storytelling and hospitality. With the opening of Lighthouse Point, visitors from around the world will experience the magic of The Bahamas in a new way, one that truly celebrates its natural and cultural beauty.”
Sharon Siskie, senior vice president and general manager at Disney Cruise Line
What Can Guests Expect From This Exciting New Destination?
Just like Disney’s first island, Castaway Cay, Lighthouse Point has been designed with families in mind and features a relaxing beach escape infused with the colour and energy of Bahamian artistry. The destination has also been developed with a commitment to conservation at its core.
Upon arrival, guests will be greeted by distinctive, sweeping architecture in bright, saturated hues. The curvilinear buildings will appear as Bahamian shells scattered along the shoreline.
Throughout the destination, references to playful folklore characters will evoke the warmth and charm of the local culture.
Family Areas
Families will enjoy a day of fun in the sun as they relax on the pristine family beach on the east side of the island.
A brightly-coloured, interactive family water play area will include two slides, water drums, fountains and more.
Additional recreational activities will be available for kids, including a covered gaming pavilion, a volleyball court, watercraft and bicycle rentals and nature trails for hiking and biking.
Families can embark on active adventures and discover the magic of Bahamian storytelling alongside favourite Disney characters.
Children ages 3 to 12 will splash and play at a themed kids’ club under the care of highly-trained Disney Cruise Line counsellors. It will include a splash pad inspired by favourite undersea creatures from Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “The Little Mermaid,” plenty of shade and a dedicated dining area.
Disney’s new island destination is being thoughtfully designed to provide a hassle-free experience for families, including complimentary beach essentials (towels, chairs, and umbrellas and lunch) and convenient tram transportation.
Those seeking the most luxurious day on the island can book one of the 20 family cabanas, including four double cabanas that are suitable for large groups.
Relaxing Areas For Adults
As Disney cruises aren’t just for kids, Lighthouse Point will also feature an exclusive adult beach, named Serenity Bay.
Offering a glorious stretch of sun-drenched tranquility, it will have a dedicated dining area for convenient access to food and drinks throughout the day, plus six private cabanas available by reservation.
Fun Activities
At Lighthouse Point, activities will be available for every age group. There will be a Bahamian art and culture pavilion featuring special programs and local artists, a brightly-coloured, interactive family water play area, a covered gaming pavilion, a volleyball court and gaga ball pit, watercraft and bicycle rentals, nature trails for hiking and biking, and more.
The art and culture will be embodied in the essence of “Junkanoo”, a Bahamian festival, and will be based in the Goombay Cultural Center on the island. Music, singing, and dancing will all take place here.
There’ll be further family entertainment offered at Triton’s Trumpet Stage. This gazebo will have lots of live shows for guests to enjoy during their visit.
In addition to recreational activities, visitors to Lighthouse Point will also have the opportunity to be surrounded by the wonders of nature and get a glimpse into the efforts taking place to conserve wildlife and their unique island habitats.
A collection of new Port Adventures developed in partnership with local tour operators will take guests beyond Lighthouse Point to explore the rich culture and breathtaking beauty of Eleuthera.
And at the end of the day, guests will love a visit to the Treasures of Eleuthera store, to pick up some gifts and artisan items sold by local residents and small businesses.
Environmental Considerations
The design of Lighthouse Point also places a strong emphasis on environmental sustainability. At least 90% of the destination’s electricity needs will be met by an onsite solar array.
The pier was designed to avoid the need for dredging, and elevated walkways will help limit the impact on the landscape.
“Lighthouse Point is a place of extraordinary natural beauty, so our goal has always been to create designs that accentuate its qualities in an organic way. We’re focused on low-density, sustainable development that protects and preserves the environment, allowing the site’s biodiversity to shine.”
Kevin Thomas, creative director of Walt Disney Imagineering
How To Visit
Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point will open for guests on select sailings in the summer of 2024. Details on inaugural itineraries and additional information about signature entertainment, dining, retail, and excursions will be released at a later date.
I can’t wait to experience this exciting new addition to the Disney Cruise Line family!
