You are spot on accurate, BUT, and this is a big but, river and ocean cruises are no mire comparable than a small sports car is to a semitrailer. Both are motor vehicles but for very different uses. River cruises are everything that you say but there are no production shows, no choice of several speciality restaurants, etc.
Both river and ocean cruises can be wonderful. You just need to decide which experience you want for a given cruise. My wife and I love both
