Six fishermen and their dog were rescued from the seas around Mexico after being spotted adrift by crew on the cruise ship Harmony of the Seas.
The rescue comes two days after the fishing boat had been reported lost, losing all contact with the coast with hope fading that the fishermen and their pup would be found.
Local officials and members of the community around Cape Catoche had already been searching for the fishermen without any success, but partway through a 7-night Caribbean cruise itinerary from Galveston, Harmony of the Seas encountered the ship.
A rescue boat was sent out to greet them, and the men and their dog Canelo were rescued and transferred to the Mexican Navy, so that they could be returned home to Cozumel.
There was no expected impact on the Harmony of the Seas either, meaning that guests would still enjoy their full cruise as planned, with the ship continuing onto Roatan in Honduras on schedule.
While international laws do dictate that ships must stop to help any boat in distress, it’s still great to see the team on Harmony of the Seas acting so efficiently to help these fishermen in distress and help get them home safely.
