The crew members on cruise ships work extremely hard on cruise ships, often doing long hours with barely any days off, just to make sure you have the best holiday possible.

But despite those long hours, there are still some perks for crew to enjoy to make sure that all workers stay happy and can continue to provide the best standards of service.
Royal Caribbean crew member Bryan James runs a YouTube channel on the side to showcase the life of working on a cruise, and in one of this latest videos he revealed some fascinating details of what goes on after hours onboard cruise ships!
He explained how there just isn’t enough space on the crew-only parts of the ship for staff to hold events, and so sometimes they spill out into the public areas of the ship after hours when passengers have gone to bed.
He gave the example of how the crew were holding a movie night in the Royal Theatre, which is normally packed with guests enjoying “crazy shows” featuring dancers, acrobats and more.
But once the shows were over, crew were allowed to enjoy the theatre to watch a movie, although Bryan admitted that not a lot of people were able to show up because most of them would still have been working.
And those who weren’t working would likely be catching up on some much-needed sleep!

Bryan’s been working on Utopia of the Seas for several months now. He explained how a crew welfare team onboard are responsible for arranging different events to keep everyone entertained, and while the biggest are the crew parties, there can be some other unusual events as well.
The weird example that he highlighted was a banana eating contest that crew could sign up for in the Garden Cafe, one of the exclusive crew areas on Deck 2 of Utopia of the Seas.
There was a prize advertised for the winner – I hope it wasn’t more bananas!
Bryan explained that he was working (as a musician) during the contest so he couldn’t film it.
But he did speculate as to why such an unusual contest was being held and perhaps the ship just had too many bananas and didn’t want them to go to waste!
Did you know that crew would hold such unusual events, or that they would take over public parts of cruise ships when you weren’t using them for parties and other events?
