Celebrity Cruises has announced changes to its shore excursion cancellation policies in a bid to make excursion bookings fairer.

The cancellation window for excursions is changing – guests must now cancel excursions no later than 48 hours before the ship arrives in the port in question. Previously, guests could cancel up to 24 hours before the excursion set off.
So not only has the window been moved forward by 24 hours, but the time has changed from the excursion departure to the arrival of the ship in port.
While this may seem more restrictive on guests, it will actually help to tackle the problems of some guests who like to book multiple tours, and then cancel some last-minute.
This tactic is used by indecisive guests who don’t mind paying upfront for excursions and then waiting for refunds. However, it can cause other guests to miss out on tours when they don’t see the last-minute availability. It also causes excursion providers to lose out when spaces go unsold.
These changes only apply to excursions booked through Celebrity Cruises, and for any independent shore excursions, guests should check the terms of the provider for cancellation windows.
Select tours already have a much earlier deadline of 30 days before the ship departs on the cruise – those are for specialist tours that include flights, trains, overnight stays or other special events.
Those remain unchanged with the new rules, which come into effect on 1st January 2024.

Awesome idea
to be fair a better way, in my opinion, would be to not allow multiple bookings by the same cabin/party. I’m actually quite surprised that this is even a ‘thing’ – although not surprised at people’s selfishness.
