French cruise line Ponant has unveiled an exciting new ship due to launch in 2030. She will be completely carbon-neutral thanks to some innovative technologies – including modern sails.
As part of the cruise line’s wider Swap2Zero project, the company wanted to launch a ship that blended state-of-the-art technology with eco-friendly features aimed at sustainability.
These include a sail power system with a hull design that means that 50% of propulsion energy from the ship comes from the wind.
There will also be over 1,000 square meters of solar panels incorporated into the ship, carbon capture technology, an innovative energy management system, and fuel cells designed for low and high temperatures.

The ship will be a smaller ship, similar to others in the Ponant fleet, with around 100 guest cabins.
By 2030, our future ship aims to have zero greenhouse gas emissions when sailing, maneuvering, in port, or at anchor. Her carbon footprint will be reduced throughout her life cycle. Renewable energy supplied by the wind and sun will be combined with low-carbon non-fossil energy associated with fuel cells
