Days after Royal Caribbean’s Voyager of the Seas had a cruise delayed and shortened due to drydock problems, a second ship has suffered a similar fate.

Adventure of the Seas was set to depart from Barcelona on 24th November 2024, but ongoing weather problems in Spain have resulted in a two-day delay.
The departure is now rescheduled for 26th November due to the heavy rain and strong winds Spain has suffered from, which disrupted the ship’s maintenance schedule.
The adverse weather not only caused flooding in various regions but also posed significant challenges to maritime operations, impacting the cruise industry.
The original 13-night journey from Barcelona to Port Canaveral, Florida, has been shortened to 11 days. The revised itinerary will now only include a visit to Madeira on 29th November, omitting planned stops in Valencia, Malaga, and Cadiz.
Passengers have been instructed to follow their originally scheduled boarding times, with the all-aboard time set for 3:30 p.m. on 26th November.
In response to the inconvenience, the cruise line is offering compensation to affected passengers. Each guest will receive a refund equivalent to two days of their cruise fare as onboard credit.
Additionally, passengers will retain the original 13-night sailing points for the Crown and Anchor Society loyalty programme.
Because the itinerary is shortened, there’s no delay currently anticipated for the Caribbean season, which will include a mix of 6- and 8-day cruises from Port Canaveral.
Voyager of the Seas suffered similar delays, but then also had an eventful crossing when she did depart, having to rescue a stranded family at sea from a broken sailboat.
And just prior to that, Explorer of the Seas was hit by a large squall which caused it to tilt dramatically, causing widespread minor damage (including many lost bottles of alcohol!).
It’s certainly been an eventful transatlantic crossing season for Royal Caribbean!
