A passenger has launched legal action against Celebrity Cruises after allegedly sustaining a fractured foot during a fall on the dance floor of Celebrity Reflection.
Jeannette Beres, a Florida resident, claims she was injured while attending an evening event in the ship’s grand foyer on 14th January 2025. The incident is said to have occurred on Deck 3, a central atrium space frequently used for live music and dancing.

According to the complaint, Beres tripped over a speaker that had been positioned in the middle of the dance floor, an area where guests were expected to move freely. The fall reportedly resulted in a fractured foot along with additional injuries affecting other parts of her body.
The lawsuit was filed on 26th March 2026, with Beres seeking damages for pain, suffering and financial losses linked to the incident.
Celebrity Cruises Accused Of Safety Failings
In the filing, Beres accuses Celebrity Cruises of multiple forms of negligence. These include claims of negligent maintenance, failure to inspect the area properly, and failure to warn passengers of potential hazards.
Her legal representatives argue that the cruise line did not maintain the dance floor in a safe condition and failed to identify or remove what they describe as a dangerous obstruction. They also allege that no signage, markings or verbal warnings were provided to alert guests to the presence of the speaker.
Celebrity Cruises has not publicly responded to the allegations. As with all such cases, the claims remain unproven until examined in court.
Establishing liability may depend on whether it can be demonstrated that the cruise line failed in its duty of care. Evidence such as security footage or photographs of the area has not been released publicly.
Cruise operators typically adhere to international maritime safety standards, including those set out under the Safety of Life at Sea convention, which cover hazard prevention and passenger safety. Legal proceedings will likely examine whether those standards were met in this instance.
There is also the question of assumed risk, as passengers may be considered to accept certain inherent risks when engaging in activities such as dancing on a moving vessel, particularly in crowded environments.
Despite the lawsuit, Celebrity Reflection continues to operate short cruises to the Bahamas from Fort Lauderdale, offering 3- and 4-night itineraries for up to 3,046 guests.
Similar Cases Highlight Ongoing Legal Trend
Fall-related incidents are among the most common types of lawsuits faced by cruise lines, with several cases emerging across the industry in recent months.
Royal Caribbean, a sister brand to Celebrity Cruises, was recently named in multiple lawsuits involving passengers who reported injuries from falls during their voyages.
Elsewhere, a separate claim was filed against Princess Cruises earlier this year, involving a passenger who allegedly slipped on decorative ribbons in a dining area aboard Ruby Princess.
Such cases often hinge on whether cruise lines can be shown to have been aware of hazards and failed to act, or whether passengers are deemed to have contributed to their own injuries.
