We’re one step closer to the debut sailing of the world’s biggest-ever cruise ship – Icon of the Seas undertook her first sea trials this week, and she’s looking incredible!
The ship set sail from the Meyer Turku shipyard on Monday morning for her first set of trials.
This is where they just carry out some of the basic trials to make sure that the ship handles as expected. It’s really important for any cruise ship, but even more so when she’s now the biggest cruise ship to have ever sailed! She needs to be able to turn and move as she’s supposed to.
While the sea trials are an exciting step, there is still some way to go before she’ll be ready to launch on her debut sailing in January 2024.
There’s likely to be at least one more set of sea trials, along with a host of tests carried out in the shipyard too. And despite how far along she’s looking, there’ll be a huge amount of work to do finishing the interior of the ship as well.
That includes putting the final touches on new features such as the Surfside neighborhood, the Izumi in the Park dining concept, and the beautiful Overlook lounge space.
Icon of the Seas debuts in January 2024 and will sail from Miami, offering Caribbean cruises.
