Carnival Cruise Line has provided detailed clarification on how Diamond and Platinum Carnival Rewards members can maximise their two complimentary drinks benefit, including how the perk interacts with the cruise line’s limited-time FunPack bundles.

The announcement comes as confusion amongst loyalty programme members has prompted questions about when the free beverages are applied and how passengers can control their usage throughout their sailing.
John Heald, Carnival Cruise Line’s brand ambassador, took to his Facebook account on Wednesday, 28th October 2026, to address recurring questions from Diamond and Platinum guests about their complimentary beverage benefit. In a video message, Heald acknowledged that many passengers remain uncertain about the mechanics of claiming their two free drinks.
The complimentary beverage perk has been a cornerstone benefit for upper-tier loyalty members, available under both the previous “Very Important Fun Person” (VIFP) programme, which concluded on 31st August 2026, and the current Carnival Rewards structure.
Despite the benefit’s popularity, the operational details of how and when the drinks are applied to guests’ accounts have generated persistent confusion amongst cruisers.
Automatic Application Of Complimentary Beverages Explained
Heald clarified that Carnival’s standard policy automatically applies a Diamond or Platinum guest’s first two beverage orders as their complimentary drinks unless passengers specifically request otherwise. This default setting means that passengers who are unaware of the automatic application may inadvertently use their free drinks on items they might otherwise have preferred to pay for separately.
“When you get on board, and unless you tell the bartender or the bar server that you do not want your first two drinks to be those complimentary ones, they will automatically make it,” Heald explained in the video. This policy applies from the moment guests board the vessel and begin ordering beverages, whether at embarkation or later during the sailing.
The automatic application system is designed to ensure that all eligible guests receive their loyalty benefits without having to remember to claim them. However, for passengers who prefer to strategically save their complimentary drinks for higher-value beverages later in the cruise, understanding how to override this default becomes essential.
How Guests Can Save Complimentary Drinks For Later Use
Carnival’s system allows Diamond and Platinum members complete control over when they use their two free beverages, provided they communicate their preferences to bar staff. Heald provided a practical example to illustrate how simple the process is for guests who wish to preserve their complimentary drinks.

“If you go up to the bartender and say, could I have a bottle of water, I’m really thirsty, the bartender gives you a bottle of water. Unless you say, please do not make this one of my complimentary Platinum or Diamond drinks, they will automatically do it,” he detailed. When a guest requests that a beverage not count as one of their complimentary drinks, the purchase is instead charged to their stateroom account, and the two free drinks remain available for future use.
This flexibility enables savvy cruisers to reserve their complimentary beverages for premium cocktails, specialty coffees, or other higher-priced options rather than using them on basic drinks like bottled water or standard soft drinks. Heald recommended that guests proactively inform bartenders or bar servers when they do want to use one of their complimentary beverages, stating this preference clearly when placing their drink order to avoid any misunderstanding.
FunPack Bundles Offer Limited-Time Beverage Options
Adding another layer to the beverage benefit landscape, Carnival Cruise Line announced four distinct FunPack bundle promotions on 14th October 2026. These limited-time packages provide guests with various drink inclusions alongside other popular cruise add-ons, creating potential confusion about how they interact with existing loyalty programme benefits.
The FunPack options cater to different passenger preferences and drinking habits. The “Kidstarter FunPack” bundle includes the full Bottomless Bubbles soda and juice package, designed for families travelling with children who enjoy unlimited soft drinks throughout their voyage.
The “Zero Proof FunPack” features the CHEERS! Zero Proof package, which Carnival first introduced in September 2025 to meet growing demand for non-alcoholic beverage options. For guests who enjoy moderate alcohol consumption, the “Social FunPack” provides three alcoholic beverages per day plus unlimited non-alcoholic drinks.
Meanwhile, the “Epic FunPack” delivers the most comprehensive beverage coverage with the complete CHEERS! beverage package, allowing guests to enjoy a wide variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks throughout their sailing with minimal restrictions.
Complimentary Drinks Remain Separate From FunPack Inclusions
One of the most frequent questions Heald received concerned whether purchasing a FunPack would eliminate the separate complimentary beverage benefit for Diamond and Platinum guests. The brand ambassador provided definitive confirmation that the two benefits operate independently and do not conflict with one another.
“One of the questions I had was over and over was, if I buy these, do I still get my 2 complimentary Platinum or Diamond drinks? Yes, you do,” Heald stated emphatically. “That does not interfere with that at all.” This means that Diamond and Platinum Carnival Rewards members who purchase any FunPack bundle will receive both their loyalty programme’s two complimentary beverages and the full drink inclusions provided by their chosen FunPack.
This clarification represents significant value for upper-tier loyalty members, as they can layer their complimentary drinks on top of their purchased FunPack benefits. For example, a Diamond member who purchases the Social FunPack would receive three alcoholic drinks daily from the package plus two additional complimentary beverages that can be used at any point during the cruise.
Purchase Window And Sailing Dates For FunPack Promotions
The FunPack bundles operate under specific time constraints that guests must observe to take advantage of the promotional pricing. The packages are only available for purchase through 30th October 2026, giving passengers a narrow window to secure these bundled benefits before the offer expires.

Once purchased, FunPacks can be applied to voyages departing from 31st October 2026 through 31st December 2027, providing more than a year of eligible sailing dates. However, guests must complete their FunPack purchase at least three days before their sailing date to ensure proper processing and application to their booking.
Heald emphasised the urgency of the purchase deadline in his video message, noting that potential buyers had only two days remaining at the time of his posting. “And remember, you only have 2 more days, 2 more days, 2 more days to get that,” he stressed. “After that, I don’t know if they’ll be back.”
Strong Passenger Interest In Bundle Options
Despite the complexity surrounding how the various beverage benefits interact, Heald reported robust consumer interest across all four FunPack options. The bundle packages appear to resonate with different passenger demographics, from families seeking value on children’s drinks to guests who appreciate the convenience of pre-purchased beverage packages.
“They are all very popular in their own right,” Heald confirmed, though he did not provide specific sales figures or indicate which FunPack variant proved most popular amongst cruisers. The brand ambassador’s comments suggest that Carnival successfully created differentiated bundle options that appeal to various guest preferences and cruise styles.
Heald notably refrained from confirming whether Carnival Cruise Line would extend either the purchase window or the eligible sailing dates for the FunPack promotions beyond the currently advertised timeframes. His uncertainty about potential extensions – “I don’t know if they’ll be back” – suggests that the cruise line may be evaluating programme performance before committing to future iterations or extensions of the bundle offers.
Additional FunPack Benefits Beyond Beverages
Whilst beverage inclusions form the cornerstone of the FunPack bundles, Carnival designed these packages to deliver comprehensive value across multiple onboard spending categories.
The bundles incorporate various popular cruise add-ons that guests frequently purchase separately, creating consolidated packages that simplify pre-cruise planning and potentially deliver cost savings.
Depending on which FunPack guests select, the bundles include arcade tokens for families with children who enjoy the onboard game rooms, bulk candy discounts at the ship’s sweet shop, and WiFi packages that keep passengers connected throughout their voyage.
Shore excursion discounts help guests save on port activities, whilst specialty dining discounts make it more affordable to experience the cruise line’s premium restaurants beyond the main dining room and buffet.
These additional perks, combined with the beverage inclusions, position the FunPacks as all-encompassing value propositions rather than simple drink packages. For Diamond and Platinum Carnival Rewards members, the ability to stack their complimentary beverages on top of the FunPack drinks makes these bundles particularly attractive, delivering enhanced value to the cruise line’s most loyal customers whilst simplifying the onboard payment experience across multiple spending categories.
