Thousands of Carnival Cruise Line guests were recently disappointed to learn that their 2026 sailings have been cancelled.

This is due to affected ships having their dry dock schedules adjusted, requiring a pause in operations for essential maintenance and refurbishments.

One of the most notable cancellations is Carnival Horizon’s 13-night Transatlantic cruise from Barcelona to Miami, originally scheduled to depart on 15th June 2026.

The cruise line explained the cancellation was necessary due to changes in the ship’s dry dock timeline.

Affected passengers were offered two options:

  1. Rebook a comparable cruise at the same rate and receive a $50 per person / $100 per stateroom onboard credit.
  2. Do nothing and receive a full refund – including any pre-purchased packages – automatically after 1st May 2025.

Carnival reassured guests they would help find an equally exciting alternative and encouraged them to call for rebooking assistance.

Carnival Magic Cancels Over a Month of Sailings

Meanwhile, Carnival Magic will be out of service from 18th April to 24th May 2026, due to her own rescheduled dry dock.

This affects more than a month of sailings that were set to include popular 6–8 night Eastern and Southern Caribbean itineraries.

As with Horizon, Carnival offered impacted Magic passengers the same refund or rebooking options and noted:

“We sincerely apologize for this change and thank you for your understanding. We look forward to having you sail with us.”

While cancellations are never fun, dry docks are crucial for both safety and guest satisfaction.

Ships typically undergo dry dock every 3 to 5 years for regulatory inspections, maintenance, and updates to onboard amenities.

These pauses ensure vessels stay compliant with maritime regulations and continue to deliver top-tier cruise experiences.

Fortunately, guests have over a year’s notice to make alternative travel plans.

Carnival emphasised that refunds will be processed after 1st May 2025, and could take up to three weeks to appear, depending on guests’ banking institutions.
