Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has announced that award-winning American actor Eric Stonestreet will serve as godfather to its newest ship, Norwegian Aqua.

Stonestreet, best known for his role as Cameron Tucker in the hit TV series Modern Family, will officially christen Norwegian Aqua at a ceremony in PortMiami on 13th April 2025.
The 156,300-gross-ton ship is currently under construction at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy, with sea trials and final touches still to come.
“We are very excited to officially welcome Eric Stonestreet to the NCL team!
“Eric’s authenticity, wit, charm and genuine desire to bring happiness to the masses embodies the role of godfather for Norwegian Aqua, as well as who we are and what we stand for as a company. We are honoured to have Eric as the godfather of Norwegian Aqua.”
David J. Herrera, president of Norwegian Cruise Line.
The actor expressed his excitement about the role and the ship’s innovative features.
“I am blown away by what’s in store for Norwegian Aqua, and I cannot wait to take a ride on the Aqua Slidecoaster, indulge in some red curry at the all-new Sukhothai, and most importantly create lifelong memories with my own family while on board this innovative new ship,”
Eric Stonestreet
Norwegian Aqua: Innovation Meets Luxury
Norwegian Aqua is designed to redefine cruising with several firsts for NCL, including the Aqua Slidecoaster, a thrilling combination rollercoaster and waterslide.
The ship will also feature Glow Court, a new sports complex, and the Aqua Game Zone, offering interactive and family-friendly entertainment.
The ship will introduce exciting dining options, including Sukhothai, a Thai specialty restaurant serving traditional and contemporary dishes like Salt and Pepper Prawns and Thai Grilled Steak Salad.
Another debut is Planterie, a vegan and vegetarian-focused eatery located in the Indulge Food Hall, offering dishes such as the Mediterranean Goddess Bowl.
Luxury accommodations on Norwegian Aqua will include three-bedroom duplex suites within The Haven by Norwegian. This exclusive area offers a private sundeck, infinity pool, lounge, and bar, catering to guests seeking the ultimate in privacy and indulgence.
Following her christening, Norwegian Aqua will homeport in Port Canaveral, Florida, for her maiden season.
She will offer 7-day Caribbean itineraries to destinations such as Puerto Plata, Tortola, St. Thomas, and Great Stirrup Cay, NCL’s private island.
In late 2025, the ship will sail from New York to Bermuda before relocating to PortMiami for Caribbean voyages.
Norwegian Luna, the second Prima Plus-class ship, is slated for delivery in April 2026, continuing NCL’s expansion of its innovative fleet.
