Royal Caribbean has opened bookings for its summer 2028 season, deploying 11 ships across Caribbean, Bahamas and Bermuda itineraries from April through October. The deployment marks a significant milestone as four Icon Class vessels will operate simultaneously, alongside newly enhanced Oasis Class ships featuring upgraded amenities.
The summer 2028 programme represents the most ambitious deployment of Royal Caribbean’s Icon Class to date, with four vessels operating concurrent Caribbean itineraries. This marks the first time the cruise line will have its entire Icon Class fleet – Icon of the Seas, Star of the Seas, Legend of the Seas and Hero of the Seas – sailing simultaneously during peak season.
The Icon Class represents Royal Caribbean’s most innovative vessel design, with each ship accommodating approximately 5,610 passengers at double occupancy and stretching 365 metres in length. These vessels incorporate groundbreaking features including Thrill Island, the largest waterpark at sea, and multiple neighbourhood concepts that revolutionised cruise ship design when Icon of the Seas debuted.
Bookings officially opened on 5th November 2026, with Crown & Anchor Society loyalty members receiving priority access before general availability commenced later that afternoon. The timing aligns with Royal Caribbean’s September announcement that 2028 Caribbean itineraries would become available during the week of 2nd November 2026.
Hero Of The Seas Brings Eastern And Western Caribbean Options From Miami
Hero of the Seas, the fourth Icon Class vessel, will operate from Miami following its summer 2027 debut. The ship offers seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries, providing passengers with diverse destination options from one of South Florida’s premier cruise terminals.
Eastern Caribbean voyages feature ports including Philipsburg, Sint Maarten, and Charlotte Amalie in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Western Caribbean sailings visit different combinations of tropical destinations, with all itineraries incorporating a stop at Perfect Day at CocoCay, Royal Caribbean’s private island destination in the Bahamas.
The Miami deployment represents Royal Caribbean’s continued investment in PortMiami, where the cruise line maintains a significant presence. PortMiami serves as one of the busiest cruise ports globally, handling millions of passengers annually and providing convenient access for both drive-up passengers and those arriving via Miami International Airport.
Legend Of The Seas Expands Fort Lauderdale Capacity
Legend of the Seas, the third Icon Class ship, will commence operations from Fort Lauderdale in April 2028. The vessel offers six- and eight-night itineraries, providing passengers with flexible vacation lengths suited to different schedules and preferences.
Destinations on Legend of the Seas’ itineraries include Cabo Rojo in the Dominican Republic, Oranjestad in Aruba, and Perfect Day at CocoCay. The varying itinerary lengths allow the cruise line to reach different Caribbean regions whilst maintaining the private island experience that has become a signature element of Royal Caribbean sailings.
Fort Lauderdale’s Port Everglades ranks among the world’s top cruise ports, offering modern facilities and convenient highway access. The port’s proximity to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport makes it particularly attractive for passengers travelling from across North America and internationally.
Star Of The Seas Continues Port Canaveral Operations
Star of the Seas, the second Icon Class vessel to enter service, will sail from Port Canaveral on seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean voyages throughout summer 2028. The deployment builds upon the ship’s established presence at the Central Florida port.
Port calls span diverse Caribbean destinations including Samaná in the Dominican Republic, San Juan in Puerto Rico, Perfect Day at CocoCay, Charlotte Amalie in the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Cozumel in Mexico. This variety ensures passengers experience different cultural offerings and landscapes across Eastern and Western Caribbean regions.
Port Canaveral’s strategic location provides convenient access for passengers visiting Central Florida before or after their cruise. The port has invested hundreds of millions in infrastructure improvements, including new terminals specifically designed to accommodate Icon Class vessels and their thousands of passengers.
Icon Of The Seas Maintains Galveston Homeport
Icon of the Seas, the inaugural Icon Class vessel, will continue operating from Galveston, Texas, following its 2027 homeport relocation. The ship offers six- and eight-night Western Caribbean itineraries, bringing the largest cruise ship ever built to serve the Texas market.
Destinations include Roatán, Honduras, known for its exceptional diving and snorkelling opportunities, and Cozumel, Mexico, a perennially popular port offering Mayan archaeological sites and beach experiences. The Western Caribbean focus capitalises on Icon of the Seas’ proximity to Mexican and Central American destinations.
Galveston’s emergence as a major cruise homeport reflects growing demand from passengers in Texas and surrounding states who prefer to avoid flights to Florida. The Port of Galveston has expanded its cruise facilities significantly in recent years, accommodating increasingly large vessels and serving more than two million passengers annually.
Symphony Of The Seas Features Royal Amplified Enhancements

Symphony of the Seas will operate six- and eight-night cruises from Miami, visiting destinations including Willemstad, Curaçao, and Falmouth, Jamaica. The Oasis Class vessel will showcase new experiences added through Royal Caribbean’s Royal Amplified refurbishment programme, though specific upgrades have not yet been detailed.
Royal Caribbean confirmed that Symphony of the Seas will receive new amenities before the summer 2028 season, continuing the cruise line’s strategy of regularly updating its fleet. The Royal Amplified programme has previously added features like waterslides, enhanced dining venues and updated entertainment options to other vessels.
Symphony of the Seas held the title of world’s largest cruise ship from its 2018 debut until Icon of the Seas entered service. The vessel accommodates 5,518 passengers at double occupancy and features the signature Oasis Class neighbourhood design including Central Park, the Boardwalk and the Royal Promenade.
Additional Fleet Deployments Span Florida To Northeast
Seven additional ships complement the Icon Class vessels in Royal Caribbean’s summer 2028 programme. Harmony of the Seas, fresh from its five-week Royal Amplified refurbishment completed in May 2026, will operate seven-night itineraries from Port Canaveral, including Nassau stops where passengers can access Royal Beach Club Paradise Island.
From Tampa, Brilliance of the Seas offers six- and seven-night getaways featuring Belize City and Grand Cayman. The Radiance Class vessel provides a smaller ship alternative compared to the Icon and Oasis Class vessels, accommodating approximately 2,500 passengers.
Enchantment of the Seas will sail from San Juan, Puerto Rico, on seven-night Southern Caribbean cruises. Destinations include Tortola, St. John’s in Antigua, Basseterre in St. Kitts, Castries in St. Lucia, Roseau in Dominica, and Bridgetown in Barbados.
The San Juan homeport eliminates sea days typically required when sailing to the Southern Caribbean from Florida. Vision of the Seas will operate from Baltimore on five- to nine-night voyages visiting Bermuda, Martinique and Antigua.
Two ships, Oasis of the Seas and Independence of the Seas, will sail from Cape Liberty in Bayonne, New Jersey, serving the New York metropolitan area market.
Industry Implications And Future Announcements Expected
The summer 2028 deployment demonstrates Royal Caribbean’s confidence in Caribbean demand and its strategy of concentrating capacity in proven markets. Operating four Icon Class ships simultaneously represents a massive capacity addition compared to previous years, though the cruise line’s strong booking trends suggest demand can absorb the increase.
Royal Caribbean has not yet revealed specific details about Symphony of the Seas’ Royal Amplified upgrades. The cruise line indicated that further information about the vessel’s new experiences will be announced at an unspecified future date, likely as the refurbishment period approaches.
The 2028 summer programme continues Royal Caribbean’s pattern of early itinerary releases, allowing passengers to plan and book cruises more than 18 months in advance. This extended booking window has become increasingly common in the cruise industry, with lines competing for passenger commitments earlier in the planning cycle.
