A fire on a cruise ship has resulted in the cancellation of the remainder of its itinerary, with generous compensation offered to guests as a result.

A letter delivered to guests’ staterooms on Wednesday, 9th July 2025 confirmed that Celebrity Infinity will no longer visit Mykonos, Kavala, or Thessaloniki, and instead will remain docked in Kusadasi, Turkey through Friday before returning to Athens.
“At this time, we have made the difficult decision to adjust the remainder of our scheduled itinerary,
“Celebrity Infinity will remain in the beautiful port of Kusadasi, Turkey, through Friday at 3:00 PM, with an all-aboard time of 2:00 PM. We will then set sail and return to Athens, Greece for debarkation as originally planned on Saturday.”
The ship was already docked in Kusadasi on Monday, 7th July, when a small electrical fire caused a power outage onboard.
While initial hopes pointed toward a quick resolution, the situation has required extended repairs and investigations, leading to the decision to forgo the rest of the planned Greek island stops.

Aside from a brief call in Santorini on Sunday, 6th July, guests have now missed all other Greek ports originally scheduled on the “Best of Greece” itinerary.
Refunds and Future Cruise Credit Issued
To make up for the shortened experience, Celebrity Cruises is offering compensation across two forms.
All guests will receive a refundable onboard credit worth 50% of their cruise fare. Any unused portion will be returned to the original form of payment after the cruise.
In addition, a Future Cruise Credit (FCC) equal to 50% of the fare paid will be issued for use on any Celebrity Cruises sailing departing within the next 12 months.
Meanwhile, shore excursions booked for Mykonos and Thessaloniki are being automatically cancelled and fully refunded.
Although the ship won’t be leaving Turkey for several more days, Celebrity is trying to offer alternatives while guests remain docked.
According to the letter, “Though we are staying alongside a little longer, our staff and crew are very pleased to be able to offer complimentary curated tours for Thursday that will go beyond Kusadasi and Ephesus.”
These tours are available on a first-come, first-served basis and can be booked through the Celebrity Cruises app.
Comfort Issues Raise Concerns, But Ship Deemed Seaworthy
Despite the extended stay, the cruise line has not cancelled the rest of the voyage outright.
Celebrity Infinity will return to Athens as scheduled on Saturday, indicating that the ship remains operational and seaworthy, even if some comfort-related issues persist.
Reports from onboard indicate problems with air conditioning, power outages in some staterooms, and meal service delays – none of which compromise safety, but all of which can affect the overall cruise experience.
Still, some guests have expressed concern that the ship may not return to Athens as promised, especially given that technical issues have already led to such a major disruption.
Others have noted that a more extreme step – such as disembarking passengers early in Kusadasi – might have been taken by another cruise line.
For now, Celebrity Infinity appears set to complete her cruise with a single remaining port: Athens.
She is expected to debark as scheduled on Saturday, 12th July, and hopefully resume her regular itinerary shortly thereafter.
