12 cruise passengers were injured earlier this month as their tour bus overturned while in a remote area of Alaska.

The incident occurred when the driver of the coach suffered a medical emergency, approximately 35 miles outside of Skagway.
While the area of the South Klondike Highway where it happened has no reception for phones and very limited radio coverage, the emergency services were alerted to the incident.
However before the emergency services could reach the coach, another two coaches also being operated by “Holland America Princess” (the two Carnival-owned cruise lines that operate the most Alaska cruises) were able to attend and offer first aid.
Skagway Fire would like to thank the two Holland America Princess motor coaches for being the true first responders to this accident and acting without hesitation.

Of the 24 passengers on the bus, half were injured and taken to one of two local hospitals. No severe injuries were reported and the passengers were, at worst, kept in hospital for observation for a few days.
The driver is also reported to be recovering well from the emergency.
While the specific cruise ship involved in the incident hasn’t been revealed, there was one Princess Cruises ship docked when it happened – Ruby Princess.
Other ships docked at Skagway that day include NCL’s Norwegian Jewel, Carnival’s Carnival Spirit, and Viking Cruises’ Viking Ocean.
