Port Of Baltimore Cruise Operations Halted Due To Bridge Collapse Tragedy

The Port of Baltimore has suspended cruise operations during the state of emergency, following the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge.

In the early hours of the morning on 26th March 2024, a large container ship named Dali struck a support pier for the bridge, which resulted in the entire structure collapsing.

Six people are missing, now presumed dead.

The bridge is key infrastructure for the port, with both Carnival’s Carnival Legend and Royal Caribbean’s Vision of the Seas currently on cruises that were scheduled to return to the port on 31st March and 4th April respectively.

The port remains open, but cruise operations are on hold and officials at the port have said that they don’t currently know when they will be resumed.

The current plan is for cruise ships to dock at nearby Norfolk, with coach transfers to get guests back to Baltimore once their cruise has ended.

Cruise lines will update passengers as soon as possible, but rightly the immediate focus is on the tragic events unfolding and the search for the missing people.
