A shark-tank diving excursion often visited by guests on cruises to Nassau in the Bahamas has been temporarily closed down after a boy was bitten by a shark.

The 10-year-old boy was attached during a scheduled shark swim tank session at Blue Adventures by Stuart Cove. The boy is in stable condition.
He was taken to hospital before being transferred back to his home state of Maryland, where he is expected to make a full recovery. It’s unclear if he was a cruise guest.
This was the first incident at Blue Adventures of its kind since it first opened in 2006, but the excursion has been shut down temporarily while investigations take place.
The activity is based at Atlantis Paradise Island, a resort just a couple of miles from Nassau and popular for guests visiting the area. It offers a range of experiences, though has removed the shark tank option until investigations are concluded.
Other shark-diving experiences in the area remain open due to the rarity of these incidents.
However, in 2022 a woman visiting Nassau on a Royal Caribbean cruise was killed by a bull shark during a snorkelling excursion.
Another woman was killed by a shark in the Bahamas in 2023, although she was not a cruise passenger.
