Princess Cruises has announced changes for the Regal Princess sailing departing on 21st January 2024, due to too many ships visiting Roatan.
The popular port in Honduras is only capable of hosting three ships, and there are three already booked in for 25th January, the date that Regal Princess was due to visit.
With Carnival Celebration, Norwegian Epic, and Viking Mars taking up the allotted berths, Regal Princess is unable to visit the destination and will now instead call at Belize City in Belize.
Port changes don’t happen too often on a cruise but they aren’t extremely rare either, although the reasons are normally due to weather problems.
It is very rare for a cruise ship to have to change plans so close to its sailing date, simply because the port is full – normally this would’ve been planned for in advance.
“Itinerary Change, please be advised that due to cruise ship congestion in Roatan, Honduras, Regal Princess will no longer call on Roatan on Thursday, Janary 25, 2024. Instead, we will now visit Belize City, Belize from 7:00AM to 5:00PM on the same day.“
Statement sent to guests booked on the affected sailing
While Roatan is a popular port in the region, guests who aren’t happy with the change won’t be able to claim any compensation for the itinerary change, as it has been announced in advance.
The ship is scheduled to call at Roatan on subsequent cruises, so anyone who booked explicitly for that port may be able to negotiate moving their booking to another date if they contact the cruise line, though there are no guarantees that this option is available.
