Cruise guests are used to meeting fellow travellers from all walks of life, but a recent sailing on Royal Caribbean’s Freedom of the Seas featured a particularly unexpected star.

A 3-pound teacup chihuahua named Blondie became an onboard sensation during a December 2025 cruise, with videos of the tiny dog quickly going viral on social media.

Blondie appears alongside her owner on TikTok under the handle @bruiserandellewoods, a nod to the film Legally Blonde.

While Royal Caribbean has not confirmed the exact sailing, videos show Blondie arriving at PortMiami on 4th December 2025, when the Freedom-class ship was embarking on a four-night Caribbean cruise. From embarkation onwards, the small dog drew attention from guests and crew alike.

Despite the ship’s full slate of entertainment, many passengers seemed far more interested in meeting the tiny canine, who quickly became a familiar sight around the vessel.

Viral Videos Show Dog Winning Over Guests and Crew

In one widely shared TikTok video, viewed more than 300,000 times, Blondie can be seen happily snuggling with fellow passengers who eagerly line up for a cuddle.

“She’s become the emotional support animal for the entire cruise ship,” her owner wrote in the caption.

Other clips show crew members pausing during their workday to greet Blondie, often breaking into broad smiles. For crew members who spend months away from home and work long hours, the brief interactions appeared to provide a welcome morale boost.

The dog’s calm behaviour and gentle temperament helped turn her into an unofficial mascot for the voyage, with guests actively seeking her out during the cruise.

How a Dog Was Allowed to Sail

While the idea of a dog freely roaming a cruise ship may surprise some travellers, Blondie’s presence onboard was permitted under Royal Caribbean’s service animal policy.

Most dogs are not allowed to sail, but Blondie is a trained service dog. Her owner had to secure advance approval before the cruise and had previously left her at home after not completing the process in time for earlier sailings.

“Royal Caribbean International welcomes service dogs on all ships. Please note we do not accept pets,” the cruise line’s policy states.

“A service dog is defined as ‘any dog that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of a person with a disability.’ Service dogs are not considered pets.”

Guests travelling with service dogs must submit documentation at least 60 days before sailing, including medical notes, vaccination records and pet passports. Even with approval, a dog may still be denied boarding if it displays aggressive or disruptive behaviour at the port.

Special Rules for Service Dogs at Sea

Service dogs onboard must follow strict guidelines to ensure the comfort of all guests. Animals are typically assigned designated relief areas, often located near crew-only sections, to maintain sanitation standards. Failure to use these areas can result in removal from the ship.

Blondie’s owner also appears to have taken additional steps to be considerate. The dog is frequently carried in a purse while moving around the ship, preventing her from being underfoot or climbing onto furniture in public areas such as dining venues.

In the cabin, a blanket is placed on the bed for Blondie to sleep on, keeping ship bedding clean. All interactions with other guests and crew are supervised, ensuring that cuddles only happen when welcomed.

Blondie’s viral cruise moment has not only delighted social media users but has also highlighted how service animals can successfully travel at sea when policies are followed carefully, proving that even the smallest guests can make a big impression onboard.

    DOGS ON BOARD IS A NO NO….look at it running all over the bed, that is disgusting!
    We stopped going into hotels that allow dogs for the same reason.
    Emotional support no blind dogs yes, at least they are trained to behave like dogs.
    This is just a pet, as all the photos of people cuddling it prove.
    The thin end of a wedge that will harm cruise trade for many people.
