Norwegian Cruise Line has revealed that the new Prima Plus ship Norwegian Aqua will feature the world’s first-ever hybrid rollercoaster and watercoaster, named the Slidecoaster.

It works using a magnetic lift that propels guests up a ramp and speeds of up to 50 km/h and up to 0.8G acceleration, before they then twist and turn their way back down the waterslide design. It’s a dual-slide design too, so it works as a racing coaster as well.
The Slidecoaster will be built over three storeys around the ship’s funnel, which should make for a very exciting ride journey – one you’ll want to try again and again.
You can view the engineering concept for the Slidecoaster here:
And here’s an updated promotional video on it from NCL:
The version that will debut on Norwegian Aqua will be different from the concept – the slides will run side-by-side rather than splitting off in opposite directions.
It’s not the only debuting feature on the ship as well. NCL has announced the first Glow Court – a sports complex with an interactive LED floor, which should make for some very exciting activities during the day. It’ll also transform into a nightclub at night.
The final revelation about the ship is that it will feature the first three-bedroom duplex Haven Suites in The Haven area for NCL – so guests in larger groups who want to enjoy the premium experience of this exclusive part of the ship can enjoy a more spacious room.
Beyond that, we don’t know too many details about what Norwegian Aqua will have in store, but this is more than enough to get us excited in the short term, and more details will be coming soon.
The ship will have a maximum capacity of 3,571 guests and will initially sail 7-day Caribbean cruises from Port Canaveral when she debuts in April 2025. Later, she’ll offer Bermuda cruises from New York and then 5-day and 7-day voyages around the Caribbean from Miami.
